The finest Laser sailing club in the world, located in Double Bay on Sydney Harbour.

Laser hire

The club has four Lasers for hire to give potential members an opportunity to try the class before committing to join DBSC as full members and buy/charter their own boat.

We hire the Lasers on Saturdays between August and April (inclusively) for either a morning session with our Learn to Race program, or our racing in the afternoon.  For safety reasons, we don't let hirers just go off for a sail on their own.

Additionally, as the club is very, very safety conscious, you will need to convince the Vice Commodore or the Training Officer you can sail a dinghy before you can hire a Laser.  Crewing on a yacht is not enough experience.  You need experience skippering a dinghy (e.g. Start Sailing 1 and 2 graduate, or you have skippered a boat in school regattas, or equivalent).

Boat numbers are limited, and we usually do not hire a boat more than three times to any potential member and we usually give first preference to anyone who hasn't hired before.

There is no Laser hiring on any other day, even if the clubhouse is open, including Wednesday twilights".

Boats will be allocated at the club's discretion.  The club reserves the right to refuse any hire without reasons.

Learn to Race ("LTR")

LTR is unique to DBSC.  If you want to hire a club Laser for LTR you must fill out this form and email it to the club on the Thursday immediately before you want to hire, and must pay in cash the hiring fee of $30, together with a $50 deposit refundable on the return of the boat and all gear in the same condition it was hired.

Saturday afternoon Racing

Afternoon hirers must fill out this form and be at the club no later than noon on the Saturday, and must pay in cash the hiring fee of $30, together with a $50 deposit refundable on the return of the boat and all gear in the same condition it was hired.  Hirers will be required to cover the full cost of any losses or breakages and the deposit will be applied against this in the first instance.
