Vollies of the week!

Guest User

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.

This week we’d like to thank our new member Chris Berg, who swept the clubhouse on Sunday morning without being asked.

Thank you also to Tim Heath. Tim was unable to sail on Sunday as he was “on call”, yet towed boats out and back on the day while waiting to be called.

The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Let us know who deserves a mention!

Race report 08 May 2022

Guest User

A crystal blue sky, warm May temperatures, and a decent 12 to 15 knot westerly breeze enticed a fleet of over 25 sailors to participate in the opening three heats of the combined DBSC winter championship and pointscore racing on Sunday.

Racing started promptly at 8:30am and we were off the water by 10:45am to enjoy some hot tomato soup on the deck courtesy of Paul Adam. A shorter course and a combined fleet start (with the Radials starting two minutes ahead of the standard rigs) made for a competitive and fun morning of racing.

Full results for both series are available on our website.

Thanks to Kirk Marcolina, Scott Hunter, Julian Van Aalst and Chris Berg for putting on a great day of early morning competition. Thanks also to Ben Byford whose son Charlie joined the Radial Fleet as a visitor this week. Ben was an immense help to the Race Committee on the Jazzman.

Winter visitors welcome!

Guest User

This is a reminder that visitors are welcome to join our winter racing at no cost. If you are reading this newsletter and would like to join us for racing, please do. And if you have friends who would like to try out laser racing over the winter, tell them to come on down!

Don’t forget, there’s soup afterwards!

Captain in tow...

If you are rostered on as COTD during the winter series, you are requested to monitor the need to tow competitors out to the race course after the briefing, or back to the clubhouse after racing.

This week we’d like to thank Richard George. Richard has filled the holes in our lawn nearest the concrete semi-circle. This has taken 9 bags of dirt, grass seeds, grass runners and fencing off the area. It has been a big and much needed job! Thanks to Richard for doing this on his own initiative.

PLEASE DO NOT WASH BOATS ON THE CONCRETE SEMI-CIRCLE!!! ONLY WASH BOATS AT THE TOP OF THE BOAT RAMP and be mindful of other sailors trying to get off the water and up the ramp.
