Boat Licence Course – Sunday January 20th, 2019

Kirk Marcolina

We will be running a 1-day boat licence course at DBSC on January 20th, 2019 from 8am to 4pm, provided by ABC Boating and supported by the club.

Members will need to pay $125 to do the course and the club will subsidise the other 50%. All members should have this licence if you perform PRO or COTD duties. It is also good for anyone who just enjoys being on the Harbour in a boat.

Spots will be allocated on a first-in basis. To reserve your spot please make payment here.

The weather policy on the day is go unless it's dangerous (e.g. lightning).  If you can't attend, it will be your obligation to find an alternate (we will help as long as not at the last minute). If you don't attend without covering your spot, you will be expected to cover the club's contribution on your behalf (e.g. make up the difference that the club is subsidising - another $125).

You will need to provide your licence details to us for our records once you have obtained it. If you do not, we may request additional funds from you to cover the club's contribution.

DBSC Youth Dominate in Canberra

Kirk Marcolina

NSW/ACT State Championships 2018 were held in Canberra last weekend. The DBSC youth did us proud with many stellar performances. The standouts were: 4.7 Fleet: 1st place: Brooke Wilson, 2nd place: Daniel Costandi, 3rd place: Evie Saunders; Radial Fleet: 2nd place: Maddie O'Shea, 3rd place: Zac West, 4th place: Mark Louis, 5th place: Sylvie Stannage. Well done to all!

Club Mooring for Lease

Kirk Marcolina

The club has a mooring which has, for some time, been leased out to an external third party. That party has decided to move their boat and no longer requires our mooring. As a result, the club has a spare swing mooring in Double Bay for lease. If you, or anyone you know, would like to rent the mooring from us please contact treasurer@dbsc.com.au.

Race Report - Strengthening Southerly

Kirk Marcolina

It’s becoming all too common this season – a strengthening Southerly that likes to shift, gust and die all within a few seconds. These tricky conditions were met head on by a fleet of 46 boats for the penultimate day of the 2018 Spring Point Score Series. With gusts of over 25-knots and lulls of 9-knots, sailors needed to have a keen eye toward the ever-changing conditions.

The winners (after handicapping) were as follows: in the Standards, Ashley Deacon and Kevin Gilroy, in the Radials/4.7s, David Rogers and Marlena Berzins. With only two more heats to come, the competition is tight in the Radials/4.7 Fleet, where Peter Collie leads over Matthew Knight by only 0.5 points, with Pat Levy only 2 points behind. In the Standards, Ashley Deacon has a sizeable 12-point lead over Hadrien Bourely.

Thank you to our PRO, Andrew Craker, assisted by Christine Patton, our COTD, Peter Collie, and CoCOTD, Mark Grey, assisted by Mark’s daughter and David Devlin.  And thanks to Richard Lees and Campbell Patton who helped Shirley in the canteen.
