Sparkling winter's day on Sydney Harbour

Webmaster

With +18 Lasers competing in the DBSC's Winter Super Sprint Series, it was not only good racing but a perfect winter's day in Sydney: sunny, 27 degrees C and circa 10 knots of breeze.  After a few mass starts, the standard rigs started separately from the radial/4.7 fleet.

The only downside was the potential hernia by our race officer of the day, The People's Prince, as he hauled up our mega-buoys while setting perfect sprint courses.

Missing from the action were Grasshopper 2.0, Marlena and Blake who travelling back from Kingston, Ontario, Canada where they represented DBSC at the World Youth Championships.

Saturday, 29 August 2015, should see a massive fleet for our first regatta for the season.

As always with DBSC regattas, the off-water activities are a massive part part of the success in large part to the Canteen Crew volunteers.   There is a 99.999% chance that when you order one of the club's world class toasties that at least one of the people in the canteen will be called Paul, Deb, Andrea, Shirley, Carolyn or Tatiana.

Youth Results from Canada, Eh?

DBSC youth (Finn and Marlena) are taking on the best of the World at Kingston Canada.

First up was the Canadian Youth Championships.....Team Alexander reports:

Dear All,
Finn arrived safely in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and after a few hours of sleep was up and ready to go.   After spending the morning  preparing his boat and equipment the racing commenced for the first of two regattas, being the 2015 Sail Canada Youth Championships (August 9-13).  With over 180 competitors predominantly from Canada and USA, the small fleet of 10 Australian competitors were up to the challenge and keen to do their country proud.  Finn opened up the regatta with a win. The extremely tricky winds on Lake Ontario tested all sailors.  Finn’s results varied from top 3 to mid teens, however his perseverance and focus throughout the 4 day, 10 race regatta paid off with an overall result finishing on the podium in 2nd place.  A fantastic achievement.

After a day of rest Finn now moves into the next regatta, the 2015 Laser Radial Youth World Championships where over 166 competitors from over 20 countries gather to to battle on the lake.  The regatta will take place over the next 6 days with 12 races scheduled.

The (former) General Secretary, now Minister of Communications,  and full time space cadet, is fraternising with his beloved Comrades, in the motherland.  Hip folks should follow his Instagram for a few giggles and a comprehensive review of the engineering of European railway stations

Anyone have a spare 4.7 Sail?

Guest User

Martin has his eye out for another 4.7 sail for the club fleet.  If you've got one that you don't need, it would be greatly appreciated by the DBSC LTR team.

Thanks NB Laser

Please support NB Laser, who support DBSC.

NB sponsor the NSW laser sprint series, and donate a boat to be won each year.

This week, they kindly donated some parts that Martin needed for our Club lasers.

Good Karma to NB!

Thank you worker bees

Many thanks to the members and friends who turned up for the working bee. All tasks completed and we're looking good for season 2015-16.

NSW Laser Regatta Circuit

Guest User

There is a cracking regatta circuit on offer this season. Jules Hall, our laser rep, is offering to coordinate DBSC's attendences. DBSC has a trailer that can take a few boats, some of us have trailers that can carry extra boats and we've also lined a mega trailer that can hold 8 or more boats. Team Alexander often take their RIB to regattas which can serve as a mothership for DBSC supplies. Simply put, there's no excuse for DBSC not having a massive representation on the regatta circuit.

We encourage all DBSC sailors attend the regattas. They are good fun.  You get to experience sailing in new locations. As seasoned campaigners will attest, the regattas are held in good spirits and sailors of all ability are welcomed. If you can get around our track on busy and choppy Sydney Harbour, rest assured, you'll be far from the worst sailor at these regattas.

As a first step, Jules has put together a page on our website listing events, and in due course, will populate further. Check it here

I'm looking forward to the regatta circuit, none more so than the Australian Masters at Port Stephens in February. Great water and good racing....get along!
