Sprint Racing
Three things I want to hear when I go sailing: 10-12 knots of breeze, stable wind, and an empty harbor. What is the phrase to describe all of it? “Champagne Sailing”. Brazilians call it “Captains Wind”. That’s what we got on Sunday. Winter is a magical time when the westerly is not an unpredictable atmospheric phenomenon, but a wind you can savour. Moths and Wazps appeared to agree, too, and shared sailing course with us on that gorgeous Sunday morning.
It was sprints and the last early-Sunday racing of the year (next weekend we’re back to Saturday afternoons). 22 boats started, competed and sailed all together in seven 15-minute races. It was hard to identify individual winners, this being sprint racing and all, so the results below are the class that finished first in each race,, for what it’s worth:

A bright-eyed on-water team of Dan Constandi, Maxim Djura, Wendell Wait & Rob Blum
Dan Constandi as the COTD is a sailors' and a PRO’s delight. For example:
Dan: “Maxim, most boats stay on port and the wind has shifted. Do you want me to move mark 10 to 15 meters to the right?”
PRO: “Yes, please.”
He and Wendell did a good job at setting and keeping the course square and even start line true. Rob Blum assisted the PRO with driving, time-keeping and advice. And your PRO wasn’t shy of recalling boats and fleets.
