Sprints Race Report Saturday 24 October 2026

Spring is definitely here. Sydney Harbour was the place to be on Saturday unless you took on the Coast Championships.  The sky was so blue like at Santorini, air temperature a warm 22 degrees and the wind was 12 - 16 knots NNE.
It was perfect, brilliant and glorious sailing conditions for the 24 ILCA sailors who were super keen to participate in an easy going day of  sprint races. We had a section of harbour off Point Piper to ourselves and had a total of 6 races.

In the ILCA7 races Conor Kellett was the standout leader with a mix of the rest of the class sharing places.
The ILCA6/4 races had a constant pack of leaders of Alistair Sutherland, Andrew Cox, Elouise Morgan and 208546.

Alistair had the course wired and took out most of the wins. Scott Hunter powered in the first two races but then unfortunately retired. Andrew took out the last in a close finish. The two ILCA4 sailors did themselves proud and competed well against the 6's. Apologies for not noting down their names.

Many thanks to Gosia Dziedzic for assisting me and also to the COTD Quentin Burns and Quinn Sloan.

The only incident of the day occurred when a large "stink boat" was hooning west around Point Piper at full throttle. Somewhat like a look at me Jet Skier. However a NSW Marine Police boat had just stopped south of the point to allow for one of our sailors to tack off the point. Surprise surprise the hoon was then greeted with blue lights flashing and sirens blaring. It appeared that skipper was then reprimanded and perhaps fined so that NSW can pay off the slightly over budget Snowy Hydro 2.0 Project!
