Spring Point Score Races 7 & 8: Close Racing and Skiff Spectacle on Sydney Harbour
Double Bay Sailing Club’s 2026 Spring Point Score continued with Races 7 and 8 delivering champagne conditions and competitive racing across the ILCA 4 (4.7), ILCA 6 (Radial), and ILCA 7 (Standard) fleets. 35 boats out and a classic easterly 10 knots with the course set in the Dardanelles. An added spectacle was the Port Jackson Championship brought 60–80 skiffs, ranging from 13-footers to 16-footers, through the same waters. Flying spinnakers, fast-moving fleets and plenty of traffic added colour and complexity to the day, keeping our ILCA sailors alert as they worked their way around the course. And then the Captain Cook trying to squeeze through off Point Piper, Sydney Harbour certainly wasn’t short of action.
Line honours
Race 7: ILCA 4 Hiro Jacobsen, ILCA 6 Martin White, and ILCA 7 James Tudball.
Race 8: ILCA 4 Hiro Jacobsen, ILCA 6 Roberto Blum, and ILCA 7 James Tudball.
Handicap highlights:
Race 7 In the 4.7s, Charlie Wait took the win ahead of Hiro Jacobsen and Titouan Christodoulou Le Gac, who finished just one second behind Hiro on corrected time. Jasper Kinsman takes the ILCA 6 handicap win, ahead of Scott Finlayson and Martin White. The Standard fleet was led by Michael Browne, followed by James Tudball and Mike Dunne.
Race 8 brought more strong performances. Patrick McLachlan topped the Radial handicap results, with Scott Finlayson second and Michael Morris third. Michael Browne made it another win in the Standards, ahead of Andrew Foote (Still Doing It! –sailing very well) and Craig Ryan. Charlie Wait continued his winning form in the 4.7s, with Hiro Jacobsen again second and Titouan third.
Congratulations to all the race winners and podium finishers, and thanks to everyone who helped make the racing happen. With competitive fleets, close handicap results and the added spectacle of the Port Jackson Championship, it was a busy and memorable couple of races on Sydney Harbour.
We used Buoy Zone app to assist with course setting and mark placement, and the Race Timer app to manage the starting sequence and race timing — helping keep the focus on safe, fair and enjoyable racing amid a busy Harbour.
See you on the water at the next Double Bay Sailing Club race day.
