It's time to brush up on your PRO skills!

Guest User

Everyone at the club is rostered on to help with race management during the year. To ensure our race management is up to standard, the club has arranged training with Hugh Leicester at the club this weekend.

If your skills could do with a brush up, and let’s face it, we all have room for improvement, then this is your chance to learn from one of the best in the business!  Hugh has been running ILCA World Championships for 20 years, is the ILCA World Council Vice President, officiated at the Tokyo Olympics and is a finalist for the 2022 National Sailing Awards as Official of the Year.

Please confirm your attendance with Martin White by email or call Martin on 04106 27743.

Be at the club at 08:15 for a 08:30 start!

Sunday RIB driver(s) required

Guest User

John Vasey graciously helps DBSC fulfil our affiliation agreement with the 18s by supplying RIB support to their fleet every Sunday. John is unavailable to do so from 30 October until the end of the year, so we need volunteers to help out. If you have a boat licence and are interested in helping, please email the commodore ASAP <commodore@dbsc.com.au> and/or you can see the dates required and put your name against a day in this Google sheet HERE

The day goes from about 1pm to 5pm, and we have detailed instructions from John on what’s involved (also there are other support boats out there with you). It's a great day out on the harbour and you get a unique opportunity to see the 18 footers sailing close up. Thanks for your support!

Sunday canteen volunteers needed

Guest User

Our club fees are subsidised by the income the club earns from our Canteen for the 18s on Sundays. Almost every Sunday over the season, Paul and Shirley volunteer their time to provide the Canteen and other no-shore services for the 18s. We need your help to keep this running, specifically next Sunday 23 October we need a volunteer from 11:30am to 2pm.

Going forward there is a list of dates that we need helpers in this Google sheet HERE, or email the commodore.
Thanks for your support! and Thankyou to Christine Patton and Clare Alexander for your help last Sunday!

Race report 8 October 2022

Guest User

The on water crew of Craig Sheers (PRO), Justin Davey (LTRAR), Richard “Richo” Holstein (COTD) and Ben Byford (co-COTD) were met with the challenge of a fickler that forecast breeze affected by rain cells. After waiting an additional hour for the breeze to settle, heats 3&4 of the Club Championship got underway at 3pm on Saturday.

Race winners were Rob Vann and Rod Barnes in the standard rig, while in the radial fleet Martin White showed everyone why he runs the Learn to Race program, schooling the entire fleet in both races!

View results all here.

Many thanks also to our volunteers on the day as well as Paul and Shirley for keeping the toasties in plentiful supply with the assistance of Steve Boukatos and Scott Hunter. Shirley and Paul did a fine job preparing the post racing barbecue with duck fat roasted potatoes for the cooler weather. Thank you to David Newman who was rostered to manage the clean-up afterwards.

The club’s calendar can be subscribed to here (strongly recommended).

Volly of the week!

Guest User

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.

This week we’d like to thank Christine Patton. Christine has received several nominations in recent weeks for her outstanding sense of community and her ongoing contribution to race officiating. Christine has volunteered for race management duty more than any other member of the club in the past year. On top of this, Christine regularly provides support in the canteen on Saturdays and Sundays. She has been known to climb up onto the roof to clear out plants from places where they shouldn’t be at our annual working bees. And finally, Christine is a regular contributor and participant in our social events. We can all agree, she rocks a turban as well! Thank you Christine.

Christine and Campbell rocking the fancy dress at the season opening dinner!

The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Let us know who deserves a mention!

Wednesday twilight racing

Guest User

After a washout last week, Wednesday twilight racing is back on this week.

Racing will be informal, off Clarke Island, with rabbit starts. Splash at 17:00 for racing from 17:30 (or a soon as you can make it). If you need any inspiration, or a compelling argument for your boss, watch this video!

We have a WhatsApp group for coordination. If you have not been added to the group and intend to come to twilights, please email newsletter@dbsc.com.au and request to be added.

This weekend

Guest User

This weekend a contingent of sailors are heading to Lake Macquarie for the Coast Championships. Back at Double Bay, we will have sprints on Saturday.

This weekend is also the first weekend of the season for the18 footers. Christine will be managing the canteen as Shirley has other commitments.
We are looking for a volunteer to help Christine between 12pm and 2pm. If you are able to help,  please respond to this email and your details can be forwarded to Shirley…
