DBSC Power Station

We are delighted to announce that the Double Bay Power Station has been in full operation since late December 2021 with 82 solar panels covering two of our three roof planes.

This is an important part of our sustainability program, which Kate McHugh is coordinating.  The power station idea was conceived and coordinated by Mark Crowhurst, who also drove its funding.

We are very grateful to Dave Sharma and the Federal Government for the most recent funding of $12,000 under the Powering Communities Program, that allowed completion of our second roof plane.  As previously published, we are also very grateful to Gabrielle Upton and the NSW Government for earlier funding provided towards both the first and second roof planes.

So far this calendar year, our power station has produced 14.9MWh, of which we consumed 2.2MWh and exported 12.7MWh. We also imported and consumed 1.5MWh, resulting in net exports of 11.2MWh. Our net exports are over 3x our power consumption, which is a fantastic give-back that we are able to provide to the community in the form of green power!

We still have scope to do a third plane of panels – so watch this space!

Congratulations are in order for Evie Saunders who, after competing at the Victorian Youth States over the holidays, has secured a spot on the Australian Sailing Youth Team to compete at the youth worlds in the Netherlands in July.

This is a fantastic achievement that the radial fleet will attest, Evie has worked hard for and deserves.

James Tudball is looking to build the club's inventory of musical talent for future club functions.  Whether you're an amateur or a world-class professional (like Dean Bergman on harmonica, Marty Trembath on bagpipes and Andrew Cox on stadium rock bass), we're looking for YOU!  Vocals, guitar, trumpet...you name it...we want it!  Hit up james@thewhitetree.com.au if you're interested in getting involved!

On Saturday the club held sprint races in light of the public holiday weekend and school holidays. Racing was merrily conducted in a light, autumnal easterly breeze.

Racing was managed by PRO Nick Pellow, LTRAR Andrew Craker assisted by COTD Geoff Boscoe and CoCOTD Quinn Pierson. David Newman and Derek Hand co-piloted the sandwich presses with Shirley and Paul.

Hoist training

Guest User

Our new boat hoist has been an excellent addition in facilitating retrieval of boats from levels 3, 4, 5 for anyone who ever wants to sail outside of official racing times.  Before you can use it, it is compulsory to have completed training and to have signed the certification register.

Rod Barnes will be conducting hoist training on Saturday at 11:30am in the clubhouse. This is the third of these training sessions and will be the last one for quite a while.

If your boat is on levels 3, 4, 5, we strongly encourage you to attend this training and take advantage of the flexibility the hoist provides.

Please confirm your attendance at this training with Rod.
