Race Report 23 May 2021

Once again we had a chilly night and morning which meant the winter land breeze was at play on the harbour. Unfortunately the Royal Australian Navy had other plans for the harbour and after the first race, we had a delay and a shift of course before the second two races.

Race winners in the standard rig championship were Rod Barnes, David Newman and Nick Pellow, while in the pointscore, Ash Deacon, Andrew Foote and Nick Pellow each had a win. In the radial championship, David Huber, Candice Cushway and Andrew Cox each won a race, and in the pointscore Kirk Marcolina, Candice Cushway and Andrew Cox were race winners.

Congratulations also go to Candice Cushway, who achieved her goal of winning a race, and Ian Tudball who achieved his goal of beating Commodore Cox. What will they aim for next?

Many thanks to PRO Gerry Donohoe assisted by Kate McHugh, David Airey and Jim Dounis. After racing sailors were able to enjoy mixed vegetable soup cooked by Paul and lovingly heated by Peter Collie.

Thank you!

Thank you to those who stayed back for the “mini bee” after racing on Sunday. The club has been swept out and cleaned out, with lost property taken to Patagonia for recycling and old sails collected to help fisherman in the Pacific Islands.

This means the club is nice and tidy for our stage, dance floor and bar! We can’t do these wonderful functions without your help. Thank you.

Is this your next Laser?

Gnarly footage – call for GoPros

The ILCA Laser 50th birthday bash is this Sunday 30th May 2021 and is shaping up to be an event to remember!

We have a 20 knot south westerly forecast which will make it an awesome run/reach from Fort Denison to Watsons bay.  For those of you with GoPros (or similar) can we ask you to attach these to your boats and film what we are expecting to be gnarly footage? We have a film company that will be able to compile the footage after the event.

Please send footage to Diana after the event.

Call your mates, mates!

We still haven’t quite rustled up the final numbers of the ILCA birthday bash and we still have some boats available to loan.

In the interests of (the broader sailing) community spirit we’re asking you to call your sailing friends and ask them to come along on Sunday.

In order to borrow a boat for the event, these people should  register for the event here, entering “0” as the sail number. The club will then allocate a boat.

RIB driver required!

Powerboat dates

Guest User

No silly, not a date on a powerboat… This is a reminder to register your interest and available dates for an upcoming powerboat course.

The course will provide participants with an opportunity to improve boat handling skills, learn more about engines and types of crafts and practise navigation techniques on a passage.

The course will cost members $110 (DBSC will subsidise the remaining $110).
