Powerboat handling certificate

Guest User

The club is organising a powerboat handling course. This will provide participants with an opportunity to improve boat handling skills, learn more about engines and types of crafts and practise navigation techniques on a passage.

Participants will be able to take their completion certificate to RMS to obtain their powerboat license. This course is for anyone that wants to further develop their powerboat driving skills.

The course will cost members $110 (DBSC will subsidise the remaining $110). Register your interest and availability by clicking the button below.

Race Report 9 May 2021

Guest User

A combined fleet of over 25 sailors managed to squeeze in racing around Mother’s Day commitments. Warm overnight temperatures owing to cloud cover meant the morning westerly was not particularly strong, but did hang around for longer than previous weeks. This provided mostly stable breeze for the second weekend of the winter series with three races completed (although the last race shortened).

In the standard rig championship, Luke Parker won the first race while Rod Barnes secured the other two races, while in the point score, races were won by John Vasey and Tim Heath (equal race 4), Geoff Boscoe (race 5) and Rod Barnes (race 6). In the radial rig championship, Sylvie Stannage was the winner of the first two races with Ethan Lozevski securing the third race and in the point score Quentin Burns, Diana Chen and Peter Collie each won a race.

Many thanks to all of those who assisted on the day, and in particular PRO Nick Alexander, assisted by Justin Davey on the Jazzman and COTD Andrew Simpson and co-COTD Ross Ramsay on the water. After racing, sailors enjoyed mixed vegetable soup cooked by Paul, before heading off to enjoy the rest of the day.

Mini Bee 23 May

Guest User

We will be having a “mini bee” after racing on 23rd of May to ensure the club is ready for the following weekend, when we will be hosting the AGP, a private function and the ILCA 50th birthday bash. Please ensure you block a little extra time in your calendar for after racing so we can do the “white tornado” through the club quickly and painlessly.

Annual General Party

Guest User

The planning for our Annual General Party (28 May) continues while mindful of an ongoing and ever changing COVID environment. At this stage the live party will go ahead including a band, pies and drinks aplenty! It’s going to be “heaps fun”. We will also be live-streaming the event for those that are not comfortable coming to the club in the current circumstances. Details will be provided closer to the date.

A paperless post invite has been sent to members. Please RSVP using the link in the paperless post email. If you have not received this email, or lost it, please email our club secretary, Emily.

In the meantime, get ready to dance and sing! The White Tree Band is coming back to help bring the "party" to the AGP.  As soon as the evening's formalities are complete, the band will be delivering two energetic and entertaining sets featuring a few special performances. The band is keen to receive some song requests in advance from DBSC members and will do their best to cover as many song requests as possible.  If you would like to request a song or two, you can do so via this link.
