Official 2021 Sailing Starts This Week

Kirk Marcolina

We hope you all had an excellent holiday, and that the new year is off to a fantastic start. We’re planning a great year of events, and are looking forward to seeing you all back at the club this Saturday, 9 January, for the first two heats of the 2021 Autumn Pointscore.

In the meantime, there will be Twilight Sailing on tonight with a 5pm splash.

COVID Rules Update

Kirk Marcolina

The new COVID outbreak in NSW and revised Health Orders means we’ve had to slightly modify our COVID rules.

 The new rules are:

  • No more than 30 people gathered in a public place – this means we cannot rig our boats in groups of more than 30, so we need clear separation of two groups rigging in the park

  • 4m2 rule reinstated – this means we can have only 28 inside the club, 20 on the deck, 9 in the men’s changeroom, 3 in the women’s changeroom, and 2 in the canteen

  • We are reinstating the outdoor canteen ordering system

You can check out our full COVIDSafe Plan and regulations HERE. Thanks for your ongoing understanding and cooperation.

Laser State Masters – Jervis Bay

Guest User

The NSW & ACT Laser Association has emailed the Notice of Race and Entry details for the State Masters.

Like the Open State Titles there may be a cap on entries so I suggest if you are intending on competing, jump in and enter asap.

All the details are below.

The event will be run with the usual format of six races over two days. The Notice of Race is HERE. Entry is $60 and you can enter HERE

It’s on again, the legendary Masters Golf Tournament will be held on Friday 12th February the day before the states.  Venue is the beautiful Callala Country Golf Club and you need to arrive around noon to sign in, be allocated to a team, have a bite to eat and be ready for a 1:00pm first tee time.

Cost is just $25 plus $35 for a cart if you want one.  If you are intending to play please email or SMS Rob Lowndes at lowndesr@bigpond.net.au or 0419 266 257.

The tournament director on the day will be our very own ILCA Vice President, Hugh Leicester.  If you might be a little embarrassed about the quality of your golf, as most of us are, it simply does not matter as we will again be playing an Ambrose format.  So pack your golf clubs (or hire some from the pro shop) and come and join us for a fun afternoon.

Christmas - DBSC Style

Kirk Marcolina

DBSC members celebrated the festive season on the harbour in style, donning Santa hats as they sailed the annual Tyrell and Rousso races last Saturday. In the Tyrell, the handicapped chase saw Hadrien Bourely winning in a very close finish, besting Mike Dunne and Craig Sheers by just centimetres.

In the Rousso (a scratch race with a massed start) the finish saw Rob Barnes finish first in the standards and Andrew Cox first in the radials, with Andrew taking the trophy after application of the yardstick (which had Andrew besting Craig by just 0.7 seconds). Thanks to the on-water crew: Josh Kirton, Justin Davey, Conor Roche, and Ben Wirtz. Thanks also to the canteen crew who were assisted this week by Jim Dounis and Michael Osborne.

After some competitive racing, the day ended with a chilled out cocktail hour and al fresco dining on the deck. As always, DBSC put on a fabulous show of food, fun, friendship and lots of frivolity! Thanks to Clare Alexander, Diana Chen and Peter Collie for organising the event and for all the volunteers who helped bring our community together and make the night such a success.

RIB Launch Video

Kirk Marcolina

We know it can be difficult to remember all of the steps to launch the RIB. To help out, Diana Chen, Pat Levy and Kirk Marcolina made an instructional video that explains the process. You can check it out HERE, and while you’re at it, please subscribe to our new YouTube Channel to get notifications of when new videos are added. We’re sure you agree that Pat is deserving of the Oscar for Best Actor, and won’t want to miss his next video on putting away the RIB at the end of the day.

As this is the first of a series of instructional videos, we’d like to know what you think, and how we can improve future videos. Please let us know HERE.

Radial Bulk Sail Update

Kirk Marcolina

Thanks for your ongoing patience as we await delivery of the Radial sails ordered via our bulk sail program. The latest update from NB is that they are working on numbering the sails now, and all will be delivered to the club before Christmas. Maybe Santa is bringing them on his sleigh? Hope we’ve all been nice.

Race Management Rostering

Kirk Marcolina

Due to changes in the way we’re running race management, canteen assistance and COVID oversight, we’ve rostered more members to volunteer this season than in the past. Because of this, we are now onto our second lap through the Saturday volunteer roster for this season.

Most members will be asked to volunteer two times, and those who don't will be first to do two next season. Thanks for your understanding and help in making this all volunteer organization run so smoothly.
