Annual Club Working Bee - Saturday 18-08-18

Webmaster

Perhaps, you're like me, and your very fine 'handy work' around the home over the Winter has gone unnoticed? It's been a little bit under appreciated this year, or you've not earned the brownie points you were after....

Well fear not fellow sailor, because the Annual DBSC Club Working Bee is neigh, and trust me from past experience - your contribution will not be dismissed with a 'pffft - it's your job anyway'.

In fact, not only will you

  • gain recognition by your fellow sailors
  • have a chance to improve the fabric of your club
  • socialise

You will also get a chance to "upskill" from some of Sydney's best tradies, traders and tech-heads.

So lock it in, Saturday August 18, co-ordinated by one of the club's finest yet again - Geoff Kirk!

Club dolly shrinkage

Webmaster

We have experienced gradual attrition of our club dollies over the past couple of years. Our sad conclusion is that members are taking them — presumably when they sell their boats and/or leave the club.

Our dolly policy is to discourage members from storing their dollies in the club. Members who store their dollies at the club are deemed to accept that the club takes no responsibility for them (which is also the case for any other equipment, including boats, stored at the club). If a member’s dolly goes missing, there is no entitlement to take a club dolly as a replacement!

We have ordered 10 new club dollies to replenish our supply. This is expensive, and its impact on club reserves is effectively a cost to all members.

Going forward, all club dollies will be stamped with a number and will be checked regularly. If one is found to be missing, we will review CCTV footage to determine the cause.

Please respect the club’s property and your fellow members by not taking club dollies.

Women's Regatta Call For Volunteers!

Webmaster

A very new and exciting (world first?) initiative being undertaken by DBSC this year is the Women's Regatta on September 8 & 9 2018.

Such a world-class event can not be hosted without the help of many volunteers.

This is a huge opportunity for all club members to get involved in a very exciting club initiative by helping out in the lead up to, and most importantly over the weekend itself.

Please start planning your September now with these dates in mind! More information will be coming soon.

With scenes resembling the 2018 AGM, the Season Opening Dinner come FASHION PARADE of Feb 1958 was also one event on the social calendar not to be missed. In fact, after these pictures were taken, the night turned so good that the Free Masons of Double Bay declined our offer to hire their hall for the subsequent decades. The upside is that this event is now located at the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club just up the road.

Winter series heats up

Webmaster

We had a smaller fleet of 15 boats competing for heats 13, 14, 15 of the Winter Championship, on a particularly cold, but lovely sunny morning with a 10-14kt Westerly breeze.  Andrew Cox and Christine Patton ran the races from the Jazzman (thanks Gerry and Dene for arranging repairs in time!), with David Huber and Andrew Craker on the Bergman. The Brett Beyer Winter Program continued, with Brett looking distinctly like a vagrant in his hoodie against the cold.

Pat Levy had a great day in the radials, with three bullets to snatch the series lead back from Andrew Cox, who carried average points from the Jazzman.  In the standards, Ian Alexander won the day with 1, 3, 1, continuing his position at the top of the leaderboard, closely followed by Geoff Kirk the David Newman.

The series remains hotly contested in both classes with six races to go!
