Auckland, New Zealand - December 20, 2016: Leading DBSC Yoof sailor, Grasshopper 2.0 (passport lists his name as Finn Alexander) wins ISAF World Yoof Championship in the Laser Radial Class.

Speaking to the assembled world media, at the post-race media conference, G2.0 said:

"Dear Leader always told me it was about preparation, and you need to think about everything: meteorology, geography, the competition, off-water accomodation and food, and even the cultural norms.  To that end I crammed everything in the weeks since the end of highschool.  I even managed to prepare on the cultural aspects by watching the well known documentary on the typical Auckland lifestyle, "Once Were Warriors".

In a congratulatory telex, Dear Leader said:

"Sincere congratulations on winning the World Junior Laser crown!  Double Bay Sailing Club and the whole of Australia are proud of you.  I understand congratulations are also in order for your Higher School Certificate results.  We live in a winner-take-all society, so it is incredible you have delivered two two fantastic performances!"

The Commodore also jumped on the bandwagon, adding:

"We now have the world's fastest youth and the world's fastest really old bloke (Aka great grand master).  And we had the best Christmas party last weekend.

It's beyond doubt that DBSC is the greatest laser club in the world."

G2.0 now is retiring from the Yoof/Radial demographic/class, and his next regatta will be in the Laser Standard at the Australian Championships.  After that will be ultimate challenge: snatching the pebbles from Dear Leader in the DBSC Standard Club Championship.

Christmas Eve Sailing

Guest User

Saturday 24th. There is no formal racing. And many of the males need to leave a little time to shop. Many also need to attend Christmas Eve feasts. So the suggestion is a informal twilight style sail. Briefing at 1pm. On the water by 1.15pm. Off the water about 3.30. Probably windward / leewards using fixed buoys in the harbour.

Nomenclature changing

Webmaster

Given DBSC's pre-eminence in the global sailing community as the leading Laser club in the world, we have been asked to come up with a better name for the 4.7 class.

To this end, ISAF and ICLA have accepted the DBSC's recommendation for renaming the "Laser 4.7" as "Laser Sprogs".  Speaking at the Sail Melbourne event, where DBSC Yoof and Sprogs performed magnificently, ISAF President of Honour, His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, declared:

"Sprog has several different meanings, both nautical and demographical, and is an inspired choice by our comrades from DBSC.  We even like the idea of renaming the "Laser Radial" to "Laser Yoof", but it isn't appropriate as many of the Radial sailors are over the age of 23 and their prefrontal cortex have stopped improving.

DBSC is the most progressive sailing club in the world and we value their input."

Results for Sail Melbourne can be found here.  Great effort by all the DBSCers, and particularly Grasshopper 2.0 winning the Laser Yoof and Grasshopper 3.0 winning the Laser Sprogs.

Official report follows.....

4 days scheduled racing Port Phillip Bay - Day 1 -  blown out with massive 40 knot winds, Day 2 - still honking but 3 races completed, Day 3- good breeze for the sailors with 3 more races and final day - fickle light breeze but good enough to get 2 more races in for our DBSC superstars!

A big change is on the way. The Laser Carbon Top Section will be class legal from February 1st 2017.

Lighter, equivalent strength and characteristics in terms of performance.

Fully constructed in Australia and Laser Class Legal.

But – THEY WILL NOT BEND! No more bent top sections.

Yoof disappearing this week.

Sail Melbourne is on: click here.

As such, many of of sailors are away doing the regatta.  We are represented in all three classes of Laser, but the majority of our participants are in the 4.7 and Radial fleets.

Crown Casino is publishing odds and looks like DBSC are favourites to podium in all three classes.  This is unless the sub-continent bookmakers engage in some nefarious activities.  Although DBSC are a good bet, we discourage any gambling on the result.

Depending on weather, we still expect about 30-40 boats at DBSC for the penultimate and final rounds of Spring Point Score this Saturday.

Better than a jet-ski and kebab.....

Team DBSC. The average age of the Team has improved compared to the past!

Team DBSC. The average age of the Team has improved compared to the past!

Unlike the vast majority of Sydney folk who go to Botany Bay to buy a kebab and then go jet-skiing, Team DBSC had a more noble reason to travel past the airport to the southern parts of civilisation: collect some silverware for the pool room.

In a celebration of diversity, we had yoof, women-folk and old codgers all on the water bringing glorious benefit to DBSC.

VYC accolades and Mo Bro

Stacky (aka Michael Stackpool, Commodore of VYC) writes........

Congratulations again on a solid victory in round 1 of the Challenge. Your apres sailing has also laid down the gauntlet and will take some serious effort to beat!

I am not sure if anyone from DBSC is punishing themselves and their families this year with Movember.

If not and your members are feeling charitable please encourage them to support Michael Wilson who is risking peace at home for a great cause.

The link to his page is:

http://mobro.co/mikewilson-shls

I would appreciate if you would share this with the DBSC team.

Thanks

Stacky

I've seen the mo on the water. It's frightening, and I've donated to the cause and live with hope that the mo stays in the French enclave.

Staffing the canteen and Paul Adam for the 18's

Guest User

We provide canteen and rescue support for the 18's. we feed them and we need some help on 4 and 11 of December.

They crew the Bergman, we staff the Paul Adam ( the boat not the legend). We need a driver on 4 December. It's a great afternoon out on the harbour, but requires an experienced operator. We would appreciate any competent RIB drivers who might want to volunteer.

There is a roster sheet in the kitchen, so just jot your name down.

December Planning

Guest User

3 December. Club Champs. Après BBQ feast. Sailors, friends and families welcome

10 December.  Last rounds of spring Pointscore

17 December. 2pm Roussos and Tyrell trophies. Format TBA. Then at 7pm it's time for DBSC's famous Christmas Party. Frock up and get down to the club. Be prompt so you get fed and the canteen crew have requested "appropriate attire".  This is also in the midst of the 3 day Sail Sydney for the regatta warriors who can blow off work on Friday.

24 December. No formal racing. We might consider an earlier sail for those not shopping or driving to the nationals.  Maybe aim a 1pm launch and a bit of "preemptive physical activity ahead of the Christmas gorgefest" type sailing with the aim to be out of club by 4pm ish. To be discussed at pre race briefings over the next couple of weeks.

31 December. The worst day of the year for a sail on Sydney harbour. Heaps of traffic on harbour, with many once a year skippers out there. Parking will be on existent, the park fills up with party hounds and DBSC won't be able to lay a course. No sailing. Use time for productive preloading.
