Racks: re-organised

Webmaster

In a benevolent autocracy, DBSC Commodore has the ultimate discretion in allocating racks to the membership.

In a tradition started by Dear Leader, The People's Prince uses the following factors in determining rack positions:

  • have fees been paid or arrangements made;
  • have you contributed to the club unasked (e.g. sweep the toilets when you have felt they needed it);
  • sailed so often that the Commodore has become annoyed helping lift your boat to the penthouses;
  • regular competitor;
  • did your fair share of COTD, co-COTD, PRO, canteen and 18s duties; and,
  • not been "hard work."

There have been some major changes to rack plan so members should refer to the noticeboard to confirm they are in the correct spot.  If you are not in the correct spot, you will need to move your boat this weekend with the help of others.

Any comments or complaints should be sent by email to: commodore@dbsc.com.au

Tonight is Rules Night....7.30pm, 24 August

Guest User

It's getting serious.  Sprint day is this Saturday. First heat of Club Championships the following week. You need to know how the rules apply at the start, the top mark and the bottom mark.

Mike Leigh (coach extraordinare) is hosting a Rules Night, where you'll learn how the rules apply, how to make them work for you and how to avoid trouble. It promises to be fun and informative.

We're asking for $10/ head to cover Mike's time.

All DBSC members and friends welcome. Tonight. 7.30pm, Wednesday 24 August.  BYO dinner. Drinks available at our club.  The more the merrier.

HD delivering for DBSC again.

HD delivering for DBSC again.

In his first European media conference, HD exclaimed:

"Awesome, best experience ever! It was tough and tight racing. I learnt a lot and am now keen to put into practice here!"

Laser 4.7 World Champs were held in Keil over July/August.

262 boys from 38 countries registered and some of our youngest DBSCerss went over to test their skills and eat lots of pork and cabbage.

There were 14 boys from Australia with the best result 20th from a WA sailor.

Jack Littlechild 102nd
Mark Louis 189th
Henry Davison 215th

It was windy (in a Baltic way and not a Sydney north-easterly, although it might have had something to do with the cabbage) and the boys learnt a lot.

The action continues.

NB Sprint Day. 1 pm start 27 August

Guest User

REMEMBER you need to go to the NB website to register. The upside is that the NB series has suffered from a lack of wind, so not many raffle tickets (See below) have been issued.

3 Fleets, Targeting 3 races, @ 30 minute duration, per fleet.  Course is different to normal DBSC courses, so check instructions.

Briefing at Noon

First start at 1pm

Sailing instructions, parking instructions and all the details here

Soup and Toasties before sailing, BBQ and Presentation immediately following sailing.

Someone who sails any race in the NB series, including this round, will win the raffle for a new boat (trade in). Ask Daryl for the details; he is still smiling from 2014. And you'll understand why the boat is called NB Fluke.

If entered, you can sign on at start boat, but you can't enter on water.

Enter via the NB website here or $20 cash at DBSC 10am-noon on the day.

2016/17 Regatta Circuit

Jules Hall

As the 2016/17 season looms, its not just the DBSC spring pointscore you need to be including in your visualisation training. There's a strong line up of state, national and world championship events on the radar.

To help with diary management the key events have been uploaded in the 2016/17 Regatta Circuit page of the website

Boat Licence Course

Jules Hall

We're always looking for licensed boat drivers to assist with COTD and Rescue Boat duties. If you don't have a licence, but have always wanted one, fear not. Mike Gentry is putting this wrong to rights. And DBSC is offering a cash incentive...

THE PROGRAM
Mike will coordinate a date for the onshore and practical training day. Likely a Sunday in October. On completion of the course you will then need to head along to an RMS centre and sit the online exam. Pass that and you get the licence.

THE DEAL
The practical course will cost $200 per person.
However, for everyone that gets a licence (i.e. completes the practical course & passes the online exam) and who agrees to offer their services for COTD duties at DBSC, the club will reimburse you 50% of the practical course costs ($100).  It's the cheapest boat licence in Sydney.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW
If you're interested, please email laserrep@dbsc.com.au by Sat 27 August and your details will be passed to Mike.

1pm starts in August
