Lady Luck needs a loving owner

Guest User

Shirley Roach is looking for someone who might want to own Lady Luck.  She's a magnificent and unique 70 year old timber Haverson yacht. She needs some love to restore her to her glory, and ongoing love to maintain her. If this appeals, please have a chat to Shirley.

THANKS for a successful Working Bee: Saturday, August 13 at 9am

Webmaster

Thanks to all who rolled up for the working bee. Many hands made light work and the club looks great for the new season......

Rear Commodore, previously known as Captain Kirk,  has scheduled a working bee for Saturday, August 13 at 9.00am.

Jobs included to get Starship DBSC ship-shape include:

  • PAINTING. Dear leader will be bossing a painting team.  If you have an orbital, belt (or any other type of) sander, roller and paint tray, please bring them along
  • Water blasting of the ramp. Low tide 9.45 am Sat 13/8
  • General clean
  • Sweep inside of the club.
  • Dollies – Stack, fix, throw out  - getting out of hand
  • Get "Paul Adam" out of water for service
  • Clean the Centre of Engineering Excellence
  •  Boats of unfinancial members will be moved higher up the racks. Refer to post re Fees

The jobs should be completed by noon, allowing time to get to the starting line by 1pm for the Winter Sprint Series.

Racking.

Guest User

We are oversubscribed. We have sailors wanting to join our racing and thus we're actively contacting and asking non sailors to vacate.  While it's not pleasant for the evicted, it's great for our club. if you are not a regular sailor, please consider vacating your rack to allow our club to prosper.

For those with racking, newbies start in the penthouses.  Regular racers and contributors to club life get the best racks, newbies and less regular racers get the higher racks. Non sailors see above.

We regularly reallocate racks and did so last week.  When at the club you'll see some boats with tags on their stern. These boats need to be moved to their new position. If your boat is tagged to move lower, you might have to shift a few TAGGED boats to make the move possible. Do it. It's worth it.

Preseason racing

It starts this week

DBSC's Au-gust sprints. 1pm every Saturday in August, culminating in the NB sprint day on 27/8/16, where a new boat is won by a sailor.

September we switch to normal 2pm racing.

Start this week and start shedding the winter coat

Launch conditions likely somewhere between the two options below:

Your treasurer.......

Your treasurer.......

Let's not beat around the bush......

  • Annual subs were due in 1 May 2016. We need the dosh
  • DBSC has people wanting to store boats and sail with us, but we have no spare racks
  • We currently have 33 unpaid members
  • We regularly review rack allocations based on regularity of sailing and "contribution to club life".  If you are unfinancial, you're not contributing
  • If you haven't paid, or discretely explained your situation to one of our Committee, you've got no rights to complain when you are evicted or elevated to the penthouses

Please pay or have a quiet word if you are having issues, because racking will be reallocated on the 13th.

Well done kids!

Some of our yoof sailors are in Ireland.  Unfortunately, with the fibre to the home NBN rollout started and stopped in Homebush, we can't download pictures as we are relying on dial-u and CompuServe.

Please refer to FaceSpace or your preferred social media site and type in Double Bay Sailing Club for updates.

NB sprints @ RSYS 7 August

Guest User

The next round of the NBSS Winter Sprint Series will be held from Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on Sunday 7th August with the first of the scheduled 3 races starting at 11.00 am.

The Sailing Instructions for the event are HERE.

Entry is $20 and can be completed online on the NB SailSports web site HERE or up to 10.00 am in cash at RSYS.

Only two of the scheduled NB Sailsports Series races have been completed to date so you still have a chance of gaining a good place. You never know you could be lucky and win a brand new Laser courtesy of NB SailSports. This is the main series prize determined by a draw with tickets based on performance and the number of races sailed in the series. The draw for the new Laser and other prizes will be at the final event at Double Bay Sailing Club on 27th August.

Please note that while you can enter the RSYS through the club’s carpark to drop off or unload boats and road trailers, unless you are a RSYS member you can’t park your car there. You have to exit the club and park locally in the surrounding area. If you plan to sail over to RSYS you can sign on and off at the start boat provided you have entered online.

Cheers

Weekend of July 30 and 31

Webmaster

This weekend is the last before the club's unofficial season start of August 6, so we are sharing the clubhouse by hosting an engagement party on at the club on Saturday and a birthday party late afternoon on Sunday.

"DBSC Confidential" will arrange the final Doodle sailing for Sunday morning only.  Then on to the new preseason.
