Some of our yoof sailors are in Ireland.  Unfortunately, with the fibre to the home NBN rollout started and stopped in Homebush, we can't download pictures as we are relying on dial-u and CompuServe.

Please refer to FaceSpace or your preferred social media site and type in Double Bay Sailing Club for updates.

NB sprints @ RSYS 7 August

Guest User

The next round of the NBSS Winter Sprint Series will be held from Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on Sunday 7th August with the first of the scheduled 3 races starting at 11.00 am.

The Sailing Instructions for the event are HERE.

Entry is $20 and can be completed online on the NB SailSports web site HERE or up to 10.00 am in cash at RSYS.

Only two of the scheduled NB Sailsports Series races have been completed to date so you still have a chance of gaining a good place. You never know you could be lucky and win a brand new Laser courtesy of NB SailSports. This is the main series prize determined by a draw with tickets based on performance and the number of races sailed in the series. The draw for the new Laser and other prizes will be at the final event at Double Bay Sailing Club on 27th August.

Please note that while you can enter the RSYS through the club’s carpark to drop off or unload boats and road trailers, unless you are a RSYS member you can’t park your car there. You have to exit the club and park locally in the surrounding area. If you plan to sail over to RSYS you can sign on and off at the start boat provided you have entered online.

Cheers

Weekend of July 30 and 31

Webmaster

This weekend is the last before the club's unofficial season start of August 6, so we are sharing the clubhouse by hosting an engagement party on at the club on Saturday and a birthday party late afternoon on Sunday.

"DBSC Confidential" will arrange the final Doodle sailing for Sunday morning only.  Then on to the new preseason.

Preseason starts 6 August

Guest User

August is the preseason. DBSC hosts racing every Saturday from 1pm, culminating in the NB sprint day on 27 August and then the First heats of the Club Championship on 3 September.

Dust off the wetsuit and do 3 sit ups in preparation.

We have now received payment from 69 or our 102 members – 68% of people have paid.  There is less than a month before the season kicks off with August sprint racing.  We have not raised fees in living memory, so need prompt payment so the volunteers can get everything ready!

Please send your fees by EFT to:

DBSC to Host 2017 Metropolitan Championships

Guest User

VYC suffered massive damage when the wild storms hit Sydney in June.  So much so that they have asked us to host the Laser Metropolitan Championships on 18-19 March 2017.

The last time we hosted in 2015 was a resounding success with 121 boats, so book in a big weekend

Clubhouse bookings

Guest User

Due to Peter Collie's hard work, we are able to rent the club out a few times a year to pre screened, low impact events (no 21sts or pissups) and earn few bucks. Last year we earned about $5k, which is a fair chunk of our surplus. We strive to ensure that these rentals don't interfere with our sailing.

We've got 2 coming up this month and we ask members don't obstruct the club floor and avoid the club during the following time:

  • Sunday 17th July.  Set up in AM, function in afternoon
  • Saturday 30th July  Set up in AM, function in afternoon and evening

Thanks for your consideration.

It should be all about the data but....

This writer is very disappointed that no one picked up the obvious analytical error in last week's election special: click here.

The data was correct but the analysis is wrong ("needs to improve" in politically correct teacher speak).  A special prize will be awarded to the first to identify the mistake and calculate the correct answer: email me.

For inspiration, see one of the shortest PhD dissertations: see this.

Grasshopper 2.0 got a seat on the bus.

Did they mis-spell, yoof

Stop Press- the results for the Queensland Yoof Regatta: Radials and 4.7

In conditions far inferior to Sydney Harbour, our younger members endured:

Day 1 - scheduled races -3 but they only completed 1/2 of the first race.
Day 2 - same again
day 3- same again
Day 4 - they had to get a series in so they ran the races but it was very light and tricky.

The 4:30am training certainly paid off for Team DBSC Yoof.

Grasshopper 2.0 earned a seat on the AUSTRALIAN SAILING YOUTH TEAM bus! He was amply supported by Co-CEO of Team Alexander, IED.

Given the poor weather conditions, Smiley focussed quite rightly on problem sets for the HSC and got some valuable experience.

Congrats to 4.7 crew, particularly Henry Davison ( who nominated DBSC as his club) who had a cracker and was just outside Top 10.
