NEWPORT, AUSTRALIA - 12 June 2016: East Coast championships were held at RPAYC this weekend for the Laser 4.7 with a massive fleet in attendance.

DBSC  dominated racing, something that has become a recent phenomena in the yoof classes:

Jack Littlechild - 1st
Mark Louis - 4th
Will McMillan - 12th
Henry Davison   - 28th (only competing in 1 days of racing)

Madame Secretary of DBSC advised that Master Davison is quite used to multitasking over any particular weekend.  Just the other day he was our yoof volunteer helping on the night of the 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration, in addition to the other stuff he does on the weekend..

Congratulations to all sailors of DBSC.

Note: RPAYAC, Sailing NSW, ILCA and the IOC require sailors to note all club affiliations on regatta registration (so DBSCers are encouraged to note all their clubs on registration, with DBSC first).

 June 5, 2016

Round two of the NB SailSports Winter Sprint Series will at Georges River Sailing Club on Saturday 18th June.

The warning signal for the first of the three scheduled races will be at 1.00pm.

The Sailing Instructions for the event are HERE.

Entry is $20 and can be made online on the NB SailSports web site or up to 11.30am in cash at Georges River Sailing Club.

Head along and get some much needed practice and potentially a flying start for the new season. Who knows you could be lucky and win a brand new Laser courtesy of NB SailSports. This is the main series prize determined by a draw with tickets based on performance and the number of races sailed.

Racking.

Guest User

We have a pleasant dilemma at DBSC. We have more demand for racking than supply. One solution would be to apply free market principals and raise fees. But that is crass, and our leftie bias won't let us do that. Instead we have a simple and well broadcast solution.....racking is prioritised. Firstly in favour of regular racing members. Then (if we have spare) for sailing members. Non sailors have no priority.

Of course the issue is that over time, some racers stagnate into non sailors.

In light of this, next week, we'll be asking some members to remove their boats until they resurrect their sailing program. When you get the call, please understand and be happy that our club has so many sailors that are keen to join us.

ut pro tubulis

Webmaster

As the People's Prince declared at the recently held 60th Congress, Dene Bergman, the boat and not the legend, will be having tubal work.  The 18s are paying for half the work, and DBSC is paying for other half.

Clearly, many DBSCers are in awe as to how cheap their annual subscriptions are and how badly the Australian government spends the taxes paid to them.  The solution is to make a tax-deductible contribution to DBSC: help your club; pay less tax; and, stop wasteful government expenditure.

If you can afford to help, Troublemaker helpfully has given us a guide to tax effectively contributing (this is the distillation of the 100 page pitch book his work grunts produced on Sunday morning):

The ASF donation page is https://asf.org.au/organisation/double-bay-sailing-club-incorporated/

People can donate on that page to one of four funds:

1. General purpose DBSC fund -- this can be used by us for any purpose and is the preferred method for everything other than high performance development. Donate to this by clicking on the "make a tax deductible donation" button near the top of the web page

2. Facility upgrade fund -- separate section at the bottom of the web page

3. High performance development fund -- separate section at the bottom of the web page

4. Equipment upgrade fund -- separate section at the bottom of the web page.

Alternatively, if you cannot afford to contribute more and have yet to pay the now-overdue annual fees,  we ask you at least pay your annual fees now.  If you have problems, in paying the annual fees, please contact commodore@dbsc.com.au or secretary@dbsc.com.au

ICLA announces its disappointment

Webmaster

A fraction of the DBSC fleet.

A fraction of the DBSC fleet.

Dear Laser Class representative,

ICLA is bitterly disappointed to announce that our unanimous choice as venue for the next world championships have declined our invitation.  DBSC have advised that due to its long-standing commitment to helping the 18s, the club cannot provide access on the Sundays necessary.  With great on-water management and superb victualling, many of the executive wanted to make DBSC the permanent venue for all Laser world championships.

It is difficult to mitigate our disappointment, but we have made a valiant effort by announcing the venue and dates for two of our 2017 Laser World Championships.

2017 Laser Standard Men's World Championship
   5 September 2017 – 12 September 2017
   Split, CROATIA

   2017 Laser Masters World Championships
   14 September 2017 – 23 September 2017
   Split, CROATIA

We plan to accept applications for both events beginning 7 March 2017.

Please let your sailors know so they can begin planning for next year!

Regards,

This is a great laser blog.  Doug Peckover has forgotten more about laser sailing than most of us will ever lean.  He was runner up to Dear Leader at this year's master world's.

Its full of good tips.  If you are sick of surfing the net for photos of cute kittens, go to http://www.impropercourse.com

FRIDAY....Presentation & AGM or Marriage?

Guest User

As forewarned, this Friday brings DBSC's Annual Presentation, 60th AGM and Celebratory feast. We hope to see you all there.  It should be an enjoyable night, and as all things DBSC, minimal formality, maximum frivolity.  Please come and help us celebrate a successful year.

Truth is there's nothing better on offer, even for the singles who might think spending a Friday night at the club is using time better spent on the tiles.  Such singles would be unfairly short selling the mighty DBSC.  As a free service to those seeking love, we are pleased to offer a matchmaking and marriage service.  The following email was received and our Social Secretary (is there any other type?) attests to its validity.....

"Hi there,

Endemol Shine Australia are looking for brave singles from The Double Bay Sailing Club who could be interested in applying for the next series of Married At First Sight.

A ground-breaking expert led social experiment looking at the nature of love, compatibility and marriage. As a nation we are not very good at finding love and keeping hold of it.

The number of marriages has fallen to an historic low and the number of singles is at an historic high. The series examines whether different scientific approaches to matchmaking can be combined to help create strong long-term matches.

In this experiment, single people are matched with their ideal partner from within our matching pool and the top compatible matches will get married. This is a once in a life-time opportunity to be professionally matched with a potential perfect partner.

We are looking to contact people who are looking to find love, feel ready for marriage and who are brave enough to let our experts find them their ideal match.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in applying, please direct them to the application page at www.marriedatfirstsightcasting.com.au.

CLOSING DATE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS IS 1st AUGUST 2016

Kindest regards,

Georgia Slade+61 (0) 432 333 065M: georgiadslade@gmail.com"

Any singles who don't show up this Friday run the risk of being nominated for a committee and/or for marriage. You've been warned.

Get well, Ian.

Unfortunately, last Saturday night Ian (Co-CEO of Team Alexander) was at the clubhouse repairing his Laser when he had an accident (which also destroyed his Laser).

Ian was released from hospital on Monday, and although he has more medical treatment on the horizon to treat his burns, he is on the improve.  Ian and Clare wish to thank their friends at DBSC for the love and concern that so many have expressed.

Ian, all the best from your friends at DBSC, and we look forward to having you back at the club.

RIVIERA NAYARIT, MEXICO -  29 May 2016:  Speaking at the medal presentation, Mexico's President, Enrique Peña Nieto, said:

"Defending champion, the Dear Leader from Australia, closed out a near flawless performance to once again claim victory in the Great Grand Masters Division.  Mathematically, Dear Leader did not even need to rig his boat today in order to win his division, but as a true sportsman, he took to the water and enjoyed one of the best racing days yet.

Additionally, every night during the championships our Australian comrade endeared himself to my fellow Mexicans by standing atop the bar and starting the chant "F#*@ Trump."

In addition, I would like to thank the other DBSC sailors, Wawny and the Black Pope, who provided a much needed boost to our economy by prodigious  consumption of Coronas and tequila."
