Join DBSC

New members are always welcome.

If you are interested in joining the club, please use our contact form (You can download the application form from here). All applications must be made in the club with the Commodore with the application form

The club provides several lasers for hire to new and prospective members. These boats are only available to sailors who join our race; we are unable to provide hire boats for general recreational sailing as the club can only provide a response boat within the race area. Cost of hire is $30 for the afternoon.

As a new member, however, you will soon want your own boat. New lasers can be purchased in Sydney from:

  • Sailing Scene - 42 Darley Rd Mona Vale, 9979 6546

  • City Boating International - 151 Bayswater Rd Ruschcutters Bay, 9331 4180

  • Dinghy Solutions - Kirrawee, 0417 693 740
  • Sailing Scene in Mona Vale usually also have a range of second hand boats available.

The club noticeboard often carries advertisements for lasers and tasars for sale; club members can offer advice on finding a good second hand boat.

All sailors at Double Bay are encouraged to obtain a general Waterways licence to drive a motor boat. Details on obtaining these licences are available at: http://www.waterways.nsw.gov.au/licence.html. To obtain a licence, sailors need to be familiar with the Safe Boating Handbook (downloadable from http://www.waterways.nsw.gov.au/sbh.html). Attending a Waterways Boating seminar may also be useful - dates of forthcoming seminars are listed at: http://www.waterways.nsw.gov.au/seminars.html

    Annual Fees are as follows:

    Fee Description 2009/2010 Fee
    Senior Membership $150
    Student Membership $75
    Entrance fee (New Members) $50
    Laser Racing Fee $100
    Yachting Australia Levy Compulsory $58
    Laser Boat Storage $400

    * All members must be YA members for season 2010/11. DBSC will make payment of the YA levy unless proposed members have paid the levy through another club.

Non members are welcome to join our races on the water, by registering with the start boat before the first gun. After racing with us three times, non-members are encouraged to join the club if they wish to continue racing with us and enjoying rights on the race course.
