For New Sailors

Are you looking to take up dinghy sailing or do you want to improve your sailing skills by sailing regularly on Sydney Harbour? Are you looking to sail on a boat that is exciting and fun where you get to always be the one at the helm? If so, then read on.

Come and join us at Double Bay Sailing Club (DBSC) on Sydney harbour to start sailing or improve your sailing skills. We are a small, but very friendly and committed amateur sailing club.

We sail from a boatshed on the water at Double Bay on Saturdays between August and April, and on Wednesday evenings during summer. There is even occasional sailing in the winter months, May to July.

DBSC will shortly be expanding our beginner and intermediate programs, including try-sailing.

Watch this space for further news of developments with the DBSC Sailing School.

We recognise that most beginners don’t own a Laser, so DBSC has a limited number of boats available to charter for use in DBSC sessions on Saturdays once you've been through the Sailing School programs.

The costs of sailing regularly at the club are low and vary depending on whether you are chartering a boat in The Learn to Sail sessions or racing and/or storing your own boat in the clubhouse. After a while, we hope that you’ll buy your own Laser to keep in the clubhouse and sail regularly throughout the season on Saturday afternoons.

The club is a very friendly place and other members are always happy to share their experiences and to give pointers to help Laser sailors improve their skills. The club occasionally runs seminars on rigging the Laser, boat handling, racing and tactics. Watch the DBSC website for details.

DBSC is located in Bay Street, Double Bay in Steyne Park, beside the ferry wharf. It is 10 minutes walk from Edgecliff station or 5 minutes from New South Head Road.

All beginner and intermediate sailors will need to register with DBSC before participating in learn to sail activities. A schedule of classes and a list of fees for sailing lessons will be posted shortly.

Further details of the DBSC Sailing School will be posted in Spring 2010.
